Fundación Gabeiras hosts CreaSus as a case study of innovation and sustainability. On Wednesday, February 5, CreaSus was introduced during an event in Barcelona organized by the Foundation. Hosted at the Photographic Social Vision Foundation, the meeting was part of a broader cycle of talks held to introduce innovations in financial models for cultural organizations. “Culture as a sector for impact investment: the sustainability report” was the name of the event.
Innovation and sustainability embodied by Creasus
The core of the meeting was the sustainability report as a crucial tool to measure impact. Roberto Bernad, Project Manager for CreaSus at Fundación Banco Santander, had the opportunity to talk about the CreaSus project. Specifically, he presented the self-assessment framework and system of indicators. He deepened the details on why CreaSus adopted ESG (environmental, social, governance) and ESRS (European sustainability reporting standards) methodological frameworks. Also, the talk touched upon the logic for the selection of the indicators. They are based on the ESRS topics and subtopics. The number of indicators and scoring system. The audience, mainly composed by professionals working in the cultural and creative sectors and finance, found the proposal interesting. They valued the tool as easy to use by all type of organizations in the sector. They discussed some limitations, among which the drawbacks of a “readiness approach” or the sensitiveness of a mostly binary scoring system to reflect the different sustainability maturity stages in CCIs.
Revealing and overcoming these and other limitations is precisely the objective of the piloting phase of CreaSus. It’s a specific step of the project to test the first resources developed: the sustainability self-assessment tool and the sustainability transformation actions. Any CCSI organization in the European Union can participate. The piloting phase will help them to evaluate their performance, organize sustainability data, and use it to create added value in their offerings. Also, organizations joining the piloting will be proposed tailored actions for improvement.
